Julia Langenberg is a professional aerialist in international demand, most recently performing and coaching in Austria, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and the Netherlands. She is a 2 time US Aerial Championship finalist and Cirque du Soleil contacts Julia several times a year to employ her talents for their shows.
Julia's aerial career began 12 years ago dancing on the sides of buildings with Blue Lapis Light before landing the principal aerialist role at SeaWorld, where she performed on silks, lyra, trapeze/bungee, and harness over whales and dolphins in the shows "VIVA!" and "Azul." She toured internationally with JAR Productions and enjoys serving as a judge for national and international aerial competitions.
The Artist Foundation of San Antonio awarded Julia two grants: Original Production and the Tobin Grand Prize for Artistic Excellence. Awesome SA also awarded Julia a grant to create a vertical dance wall in Aerial Horizon’s new studio. In San Antonio, Julia’s aerial artistry has been commissioned by Luminaria, the San Antonio Zoo, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Convention Center, TEDx, Nimble Arts, MOTH Poetic Circus, and Cirque Imagination. Julia also created and taught one of the first college level Aerial Dance courses in the nation and she guest lectures at universities across the country.
Julia is a graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts, where she mastered aerial fabric, lyra, and rope, while expanding her expertise with experience on trapeze, Chinese pole, acrobatics, tumbling, sling, and an invented ground apparatus called a “halo.”
As a dancer, Julia performed with a variety of national modern dance companies and taught all styles of ballroom dance. She earned a vocal scholarship and graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Julia sang with the Austin Opera and the Grammy nominated choir, Conspirare.
As the Artistic Director of Aerial Horizon, Julia and her company are known for creating innovative and meaningful art on the ground and in the air. She is truly grateful for her extensive career in the aerial arts and she loves her job!
In addition to her performing career, Julia built an aerial community in San Antonio, TX, where none existed before. Her dedication to teaching, performing, and recruiting other professional aerialists to the area, led to the formation of Aerial Horizon LLC, San Antonio’s only professional aerial performance company and school.
Aerial Horizon performs regularly for corporate, private, and educational events, including opening for ZZ Top at the Alamodome.
